Catalina Island
Catalina Island - Southern California's Island Escape
Catalina Island is one of the most popular day trips and overnight excursions in our region. Getting there is easy, and just about an hour away from the OC area via smooth boat excursions. Catalina Island is served by, Catalina Express (out of San Pedro, Long Beach and Dana Point), and Catalina Flyer out of Balboa/Newport.
The town of Avalon in main town in Catalina is a quaint town with a distinct beach vibe. The oceanfront promenade is lined with restaurants, boutiques and hotels. The signature Casino building has no gambling but is rather a gathering place for special events (jazz festivals etc.) and houses a movie theater. Ocean adventure is all around and there is a multitude of activities to choose from on this picturesque island. A few of this are: a glass bottom boat ride, a semi-submersible undersea tour, flying fish boat trip, snorkeling, kayaking, romantic sunset cruise, snorkeling or SCUBA diving. Two new tours are perfect for the adventurer: the Zip Line Eco tour, takes you 600 feet above Avalon for thrills and spectacular views. And the Sea Trek Undersea Adventure provides a glimpse from below, enabling people to walk along the sea floor using innovative diving helmets.
A great way to explore the island is by bicycle or golf cart. However, note that the island has very steep hills. Motor coach tours of the island's interior give visitors a view of the island's natural side, where deer and buffalo still roam free.
Summer fun is never-ending on Catalina Island.
